In December 2024 Fruits de Mer Records released a radio DJ promo-only compilation of sixteen tracks showcasing various FdM 2024 releases and artists that may have escaped attention, though not by us here at Exposé. Codroephenia features cover tunes, original tunes, psych tunes, prog rock tunes, spacerock tunes, and more. The Softhearted Scientists kick things off with “The Fixer” from Waltz of the Weekend. Next is Dave McLean’s cover of Kaleidscope’s “Faintly Blowing” from his Faintly Blowing lathe-cut. There are two Anton Barbeau tracks: a cover of Big Star’s “September Gurls” from An Introduction to Anton Barbeau and the original tune “Dogstar” from his Dogstar single. Then FdM presents Crystal Jacqueline and The Honey Pot’s excellent cover of Rare Birds’ “Sympathy” from An Introduction to The Honey Pot. No FdM compilation would be complete without a nick nicely track, which in this case is his trippy original tune “Mike Hall Is Calling” from his Mike Hall Is Calling single. Then there is the motorik “Desire Lines” by The Sand Pebbles from their Sometimes a Great Notion single. Hanford Flyover touches down with their rocking cover of Joe Byrd and the Field Hippies’ “You Can’t Come Down” from their Garden of Earthly Delights single. Astralasia / Mushroom explodes next with “Purple Exploding Budgie” from their 7-inch lathe-cut. McDowell & Westaway’s original “Black Tar Acid” and London Underground’s original instrumental “Honey Drops” are both tracks recorded at the 19th Dream of Dr. Sardonicus Festival Live. The Italian band Pindhar’s original tune “Humans” from their A Sparkle on the Water LP is next, followed by Paul Lake’s excellent cover of Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy” from his lathe-cut of the same name. Codroephenia then features a David Bowie cover by Sidewalk Society, “Can’t Help Thinking About Me” from An Introduction to Sidewalk Society. Rounding out the compilation are Vibravoid’s breathtaking cover of Amon Düül II’s “Eye Shaking King” from An Introduction to Vibravoid, and Sendelica’s original “Downfall” from Requiem for Mankind double LP. What an amazing 80 minutes of music that can only be produced by Fruits de Mer! Unfortunately, as stated above, Codroephenia was only distributed to reveiwers and DJs, but you can preview tracks at the FdM website and possibly find copies of the different 2024 releases that are still available for sale.
