(Fruits de Mer intro 6, 2024, 2CD)

An Introduction to Sidewalk Society Cover art

Sidewalk Society is a trio from Long Beach, CA which fuses the raw energy of LA’s latter-day garage and mod scenes with the sound of London’s swinging 60s. It is a band that has been a regular contributor to Fruits de Mer Records going back to 2010. As the next FdM retrospective, An Introduction to Sidewalk Society is a double CD of their FdM contributions, plus a number of previously unreleased tracks. The first CD includes tracks from their various FdM compilations and 7-inch releases: A Phase We’re Going Through, In the First Place, A Phase We’ve Been Through, Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Friends of the Fish - A First Compilation, Fashion Songs, and Sidewalk Society The Action / David Bowie. Then there are tracks from their album Venus, Saturn, and the Crescent Moon, plus a couple of demo tracks and a Strange Brew podcast ID. The second CD is the reissue of their 2017 FdM complete remake of The Action’s Strange Roads, at which point they went into hibernation. In addition to The Action covers and Sidewalk Society original tunes, this retrospective includes excellent covers of The Bee Gees, The Kinks, The Small Faces, The Pretty Things, and David Bowie. All of these FdM Sidewalk Society releases have been sold out or were FdM member exclusive releases, so An Introduction to Sidewalk Society is an excellent way for new listeners to experience this wonderful US band and hopefully become new fans.
