If Anton Barbeau’s recent double CD and the Fruits de Mer retrospective CD are not enough music for you, FdM is releasing a new 7-inch 45 rpm single, Dogstar, on June 10, 2024. The A-side contains a new Barbeau original “Dogstar,” on which he persuaded Barry ‘The Fish’ Melton (original lead guitarist with Country Joe McDonald and the Fish) to play some searing guitar. “Dogstar” is one excellent tune with Barry playing an incredibly loud custom-built Mesa Boogie amp augmenting Barbeau’s throbbing bass for an outstanding psych jam. The B-side is Barbeau’s excellent cover of The Soft Boys’ (Robyn Hitchcock) “Queen of Eyes.” Barbeau’s cover is a warmer and slightly slower version that is far superior to the original. What more can I say? Dogstar is a delightful addition to his discography. As typical with all FdM releases, Dogstar is a limited edition of 300 copies on black vinyl that is destined to sell out.
