Camel is an English progressive rock band formed in 1971, and still going into the 21st Century, led by founding member Andrew Latimer. The group is loosely associated with the Canterbury scene, and has shared many members with Caravan and other bands from the area. Latimer (guitar, flute), Andy Ward (drums), and Doug Ferguson (bass) originally worked as a trio called The Brew before working with songwriter Phillip Goodhand-Tait on a single album. They then recruited Peter Bardens (keyboards) and eventually named themselves Camel. Starting with their third album, The Snow Goose (1975), they frequently recorded thematic or conceptual albums. Over the decades since, a large number of other musicians have played with Camel, including Mel Collins, Richard Sinclair, Jan Schelhaas, Dave Sinclair, Kit Watkins, and many more.
