Ryuichi Sakamoto (坂本 龍一, born January 17, 1952) is a Japanese musician, activist, composer, record producer, writer, singer, pianist, and actor, based in Tokyo and New York. He studied at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music,] earning a B.A. in music composition and an M.A. with special emphasis on both electronic and ethnic music. After working with Haruomi Hosono as a session musician, the two, along with Yukihiro Takahashi, formed Yellow Magic Orchestra, a hugely influential electronic pop group which has remained active on and off since 1978. Sakamoto has collaborated with a wide variety of artists, and composed soundtracks for many motion pictures.
