Profile
Larry Coryell (April 2, 1943 – February 19, 2017) was one of the great guitarists to come out of the fusion or jazz-rock style, both as a solo artist and with his band the Eleventh House. His career started in the early 60s playing in Northwest rock bands before moving to New York and embarking on a jazz-oriented path. Along with Bob Moses, Jim Pepper, and others, he formed the band Free Spirits, often credited as the very first group to combine jazz with rock music. He left Free Spirits to play with Gary Burton, raising his profile. His first solo release was Lady Coryell in 1968, and has continued to appear in live settings and on recordings with a wide variety of other musicians, both on acoustic and electric guitar.
