This album was recorded as the old version of Cast was breaking up (see review of Al- Bandaluz for what they’re up to now). It’s gotten very little publicity, and little surprise there, as it pretty much reflects the conditions under which it was made. The style is the same as what they’ve been doing since 1996’s Beyond Reality, but the recording quality is an appalling step down towards their very earliest work. The vocals are in English and suffer accordingly. New guitarist Carlos Humaran (who stayed with the new version of the band) adds a bit of variety to the wall-of-keys approach, but the recording quality is so primitive neither element really stands out. In general everything sounds half-finished, and lacking in energy. I would recommend forgetting about this release and skipping ahead to Al-Bandaluz, which is far superior in inspiration, recording quality, and originality.
