In China every year, big holiday music festivals are a staple of the entertainment industry, and Modern Sky is one of the primary producers of these festivals. Modern Sky is also a record label, but the festivals range far beyond the label’s own artists. Given the miniscule percentage of Chinese people who go to see live music in bars, the festivals are the primary way for bands to connect with fans. To Modern Sky’s credit, their events are eclectic affairs, featuring both well-known and obscure Chinese artists along with a wide variety of foreign acts. After a nearly 22 hour road trip from Utah complete with a night-time detour through the dense forest of central Oregon, the pillow against my face in our Seattle hotel room never felt so good – I think I was sound asleep in about 30 seconds, if even that long. In the haze of fatigue a full day disappeared and suddenly it was mid-day Friday and a beautiful day in Seattle, I was completely refreshed. North America's traveling progressive music festival, Sonic Voyage, will carry on their journey this fall with a series of events in New York and Michigan from October 16 through November 28.
