En Pakt med Naturen Cover art

Tusmørke has been releasing music since 2012, but En Pakt med Naturen is their first full-length live offering. On it, the group is down to the duo of Benedikt Momrak (bass, vocals) and Kristoffer Momrak (flute, vocals), along with guests Håkon Oftung (acoustic guitars — from Jordsjø), Brennesle (drums), and Åsa Ree (violin, percussion — from Meer). In spite of the acoustic instrumentation, there’s no lack of power or energy in these eight tunes drawn from throughout the band’s career. There’s a track from their debut album (“Høstjevndøgn”), along with both sides of a 2012 single (“Salomonsens Hage” and “Singers and Swallows”), a track from Osloborgerlig Tusmørke: Vardøger og Utburder, Vol. 1 (“Kjentmannen”), and two each from Nordisk Krim and Hestehoven. On some of the tracks, the acoustic guitar is the most prominent instrument, and on the louder ones, the bass and drums jump to the fore, though the acoustic guitar is always there. Krizla’s flute is quite prominent as well, giving a hint of acoustic Jethro Tull with a Norwegian accent, and the violin alternates between filling in keyboard parts or adding extra punch to the rhythms. The bottom line is that even if you have all of the Tusmørke studio albums, En Pakt med Naturen provides distinctive new versions of the tracks, and if you’re unfamiliar with the band, it’s a great introduction to their body of work.
