The Chemistry Set — Paint Me a Dream
(Hypnotic Bridge HYP-026, 2020, 7")

Paint Me a Dream Cover art

The Chemistry Set have released a new vinyl single, but this time they are on the Hypnotic Bridge label instead of Fruits de Mer. And this new single could possibly be their best release yet! The A Side is “Paint Me a Dream,” a song about the power of visions with a group of mystics who become hypnotized as they sing together in psychedelic harmonies. At almost four minutes in duration, the song has a powerful psych jam that is over much too soon. The B Side is a cover of Mark Fry’s “The Witch,” though you would not recognize it from the opening bars. The Chemistry Set took a hint from the Bee Gees and their lysergic “Every Christian Lion Hearted Man” and opened the song with a Gregorian chant to achieve the desired ethereal vibe. The song then evolves into a scary acid folk tune with Mellotron and other 60s psych instruments that add a new twist to Mark Fry’s original. The Chemistry Set definitely own this song. If you’ve never experienced The Chemistry Set before, this new single is a great place to start.
