Posdarapomuk is a young German band making its CD debut with this promising EP. Now based in England, they are playing out and about, and apparently shaking up the live music scene a bit. Their music is a strange amalgam of jazzy guitar arrangements, bizarre vocal melodies, and a modest dose of pop. Listening to their compositions, it’s difficult to determine the creative starting point. Was it RIO, jazz, rock, noisee, pop? The tunes are far from predictable, often switching tempos and moods suddenly. Constantly dancing the line between slow and fast music can be dangerous, but Podsdarapomuk succeeds fairly well at creating interesting mid-tempo music without getting too slow or too fast in the process. Vocalist Daniel Klemm sounds like a cross between Duran Duran’s Simon LeBon and former IQ singer Paul Menel. Guitarist Thorsten Pachur has his share of Frippisms, but unlike the Crimson axeman, flirts overtly with traditional jazz chords and voicings. The strong point of the band is their willingness to experiment — with styles, tempos, harmonies. Even though these guys are barely old enough to legally drink alcohol, they seem to have a great musical attitude. And they have carved out a style for themselves, to boot. The group’s first full length release should be available by the time this review hits the streets.
