In the Hollow of a Wave Cover art

Sometimes when you read a review written by other critics, you wonder if they even listened to the music or simply regurgitated the promo material. And then you may also wonder if the author of the promo material listened to the music as well. Here at Exposé we do our best to listen to all of the music we receive and then write our honest impressions and opinions. As a case in point, the promo material for the new Monstereo album In the Hollow of a Wave states “Monstereo serves catchy melodies and energetic rock songs rooted in 70s rock and psychedelia, and the four-piece has served jam packed space rock for over a decade.” After listening to In the Hollow of a Wave, nothing could be further from the truth. There is not one note of space rock on the album. Instead what you hear is loud raucous hard rock with an occasional melodic element. If your ears can stand the sonic barrage and not shut down your brain, you can experience some teeth-grinding moments. But overall, there is nothing in my opinion on this album to recommend. I found most of the music boring and my time would have been spent better doing something else. It may just be me, but if you enjoy a  high energy sonic assault on your senses, then you might find something of interest here.
