German neo-New Wave pop trio Jaguwar is back with their second full-length album, Gold. Continuing on from where they left off on their debut Ringthing, Jaguwar presents a set of seven glittery and catchy New Wave pop tunes that call to mind Echo and the Bunnymen and New Order. Listening to the opening track “Battles,” vocalists Oyèmi "Noize" Hessou (bass) and Lemmy Fischer (guitar) breathe new life into the genre. Mixing elements of New Wave, pop, experimental pop, anthem rock, and prog rock, their new album is pure Gold. The best tracks are “Battles,” “Gold,” “Naked,” and the album closer “Glam and Gloom.” “Glam and Gloom” mixes the glam of a-ha’s “Take on Me” with Jaguwar’s edgy gloom. Overall, Gold is quite a fun listen with enough hooks to worm its way into your brain and odd little experiments to keep you interested. My only complaint is that it is too short.
