What is the most fun you can have for 36 minutes? Listening to the Fuzziliers’ new album Most Fun! The Fuzziliers is a five year old Russian psychedelic rock act inspired by 60s acid rock, Britpop, and 90s indie rock now based in Istanbul, Turkey. They recorded the nine songs on the album in the short span of seven days, and their music is all over the map, but in a very good way. The album opens with “CTRL,” a lightweight and upbeat Euro pop-psych tune. The title track follows, an aggressive garage rock song with fuzzed guitars. Next is “Liar and Thief” with a rocking piano that reminds me of Mott the Hoople. The fourth track is “Porcelain,” a middle-of-the-road 70s-influenced jazz rock song. The Fuzziliers then change things up with the majestic Britpop of “Future Society.” Continuing in this vein they present “In the Morning,” a Kinks-inspired song reminiscent of “Sunday Afternoon.” “Fake Dancer” follows, a mellow and laid-back pop song with wah-wah guitar. Then there is the best track on the album, “Amplification,” a dreamy song with gentle echoing guitars that culminates with a superb jam. The album closes with the Beatle-esque “Amsterdam,” an acoustic ballad with a brass accompaniment. Definitely check this one out for yourself.
