Steve Lacy (July 23, 1934 — June 4, 2004) was an American saxophonist and composer. He is considered one of the most important players of the soprano sax, and his compositions are often covered by other artists. After starting his career in traditional jazz, he moved into the avant-garde in the mid-50s, working with Cecil Taylor, Gil Evans, and Thelonious Monk.
