Ian McDonald RIP

Word reaches us today of the death of Ian McDonald, who was a founding member of King Crimson in 1969 and Foreigner in 1976. McDonald's sax work contributed greatly to the sound of In the Court of the Crimson King, and he also did session work for a wide variety of artists, including T. Rex, Daryl Way's Wolf, Herbie Mann, Fireballet, Steve Hackett, and many more. McDonald was born in London June 25th, 1946 and died February 9, 2022 at the age of 75.

John Goodsall RIP

One of the most prominent guitarists of 70s jazz-rock fusion has died. John Goodsall’s work with Brand X set standards of technique and inventiveness that many subsequent guitarists tried to match. He died on 10 November at the age of 68.

RIP Jon Hassell

Influential composer and trumpet player Jon Hassell died on June 26 after over a year of health issues. Starting in the late 70s, his music helped redefine what music could sound like, bringing together influences from around the world with modern technology. Fourth World, Vol 1: Possible Musics, his 1980 collaboration with Brian Eno, was a kind of mission statement that showed the way for many composers and musicians who would follow.
