The ProgDay organizers have announced the lineup for their pre-show event at Local 506, Friday night September 4. Bruteus, The Falling Sky, and Trev Wignall will perform an all-ages show for a separate admission charge, and the festival proper will kick off the following day.  » Read more

For several months now, we've been publishing a review by Mike McLatchey every Thursday, our version of #TBT (Throwback Thursday). The albums covered have represented his "Top Tier" most favorite recordings of all time. Starting today, we're moving along to his "Second Tier": albums that are worthy of being remembered, but don't quite fit into the highest echelon. The distinction, he admits, is a fine one. Dieter Moebius RIP

Details are sparse at this point, but the sad news has come out that musical pioneer Dieter Moebius has died at the age of 71. Moebius first came to attention outside hardcore electronic circles when Brian Eno collaborated with Cluster, but his groundbreaking work with Hans Jaochim Roedelius was well known to the followers of Germany's innovative 70s scene.  » Read more

Yes, there are Progressive Music Awards. They've apparently been doing it for four years now, and this year's show will take place on 3 September in London. They're telling us that progressive rock is a "genre that is currently seeing many mainstream successes" (whatever that means), and they've got a bunch of categories we can vote in.  » Read more
