Repetita Iuvant — 7
(Bandcamp no#, 2022, DL)

After their EPs 3 and 3+1, Italian band Repetita luvant recently released their first full album 7. According to the promo material, they based their new album on an equation, though what that equation may be is anyone’s guess. As on their two EPs, the band improvised and recorded 7 live in their studio using an analog approach. Repetita Iuvant is Andrea Testa (drums), Cristoforo da Costa (guitar), and Daniele Isetta (guitar), and the resulting album is pure shoe-gazing math rock with a lo-fi approach. Sending their instruments through a lot of EFX boxes, they build a sonic wall of resonance that accompanies their squishy and squelchy electronics and guitars. The swirling mass of sound calls to mind Godspeed You! Black Emperor. I cannot figure out the track titles — they appear to be either Latin or Italian words, and even Google Translate gets confused. So I am at a loss to see how they all fit together. Most of the tracks are cyclic floating relaxing music. Nothing much exciting happens here. But if you are looking for some new ambient and heavily processed sounds, 7 may be what you need. And you can download the album for free from Bandcamp.
