Raccomandata con Ricevuta di Ritorno — In Fuga
(AMS AMS350CD, 2025, CD / LP)

Raccomandata con Ricevuta di Ritorno’s In Rock (2019) was an impressive album that proved this band from the 70s revived was a force to be reckoned with. In Fuga provides further evidence. This is classic Italian progressive rock filtered through a modern eye, with a healthy dose of heavy keyboard rock along the lines of Uriah Heep and Deep Purple. The addition of woodwinds and violin provides an extra splash of color that keeps things interesting. “Incubo” is a powerful rock tune that starts the album off in fine fashion with a guitar and organ leading the way for the powerful vocals of founder Luciano Regoli (David Byron of Uriah Heep is a good reference if you’ve not heard him). He’s backed by the formidable crew of Nanni Civitenga (bass), Manilio Zacchia (bass, double bass), Walter Martino (drums), Damaso Grassi (flute, saxophone), and Stefano Piermarioli (keyboards). Oddly enough, I can find no credits for guitar or violin, which are both present on the album — the promotional materials only mention “various other musicians who contribute to expanding the project’s sound spectrum.” Civitenga, Zacchia, Grassi, and Piermarioli have been around since the band’s first album; Martino is a veteran of Goblin and several other bands. The six tracks on In Fuga exemplify the drama and variety that Italian prog is known for, with bold melodies, delicate acoustic passages, and solid musicianship. RRR is certainly in that elite club of bands from the 70s that succeed in remaining relevant five decades on.
