Møøn: The Cosmic Electrics of Møtrik Cover art

Krautrock is alive and well in Portland. Forming in 2013 the quartet Møtrik bears an unCANny resemblance to some of the 70s Krautrock giants: Can, Neu!, and Harmonia. Sharing their passion for pioneers like Can, Kraftwerk, and Träd, Gräs och Stenar, Møtrik really delivers on their new album Møøn:  The Cosmic Electrics of Møtrik. As all good albums should start, “Silver Twin” kicks out the jams with motorik beats and hard stoner rock. Then they jump back in time with one of the best tracks Can never recorded, “Particle Maze” with its funky Can-esque rhythm. Then Møtrik channels their inner Neu!, Harmonia, and Camera for an excellent swooping / swirling phased guitar and motorik beat for “Streamline.” Next they honor Arthur C. Clarke and Neu! with “Space Elevator,” setting the stage for the outstanding “Stabilize,” a floating Kosmiche mashup of Neu! and Camera lasting roughly 13 minutes that exits with a stabilized outro. “Red Eye” is another homage to Can with heavy bass. Then we have the trance-inducing “Yellow Moon” that bears some resemblance to The Black Angels. And the album closes with the moody floating drones of “Sonik Rug.” Quite an excellent and amazing album that came out of nowhere for me. Highly recommended for all Krautrock fans.
