Zero, Acts 1 & 2 Cover art

Norwegian melodic prog rockers Laughing Stock have released their third album, Zero Acts 1 & 2. This time around, Laughing Stock’s new concept album is the first half of a play in four acts. Acts 3 and 4 are planned for later this year. The play is about a boy who calls himself Zero. Zero lives with his troubled mother while facing difficulties at school. His way of dealing with life is to escape into the realm of video games and social isolation. The music is both melancholic and symphonic. The twelve songs take you on Zero’s journey from despair to release. The song titles help convey Zero’s story and a range of emotions: “Welcome,” “When Darkness Comes,” “Nighttime,” “Imaginary Friend,” “School,” “Child,” “Leave Me Alone”, ”My Love Part 1,” “My Love Part 2,” “Last Supper,” “Zero,” and “Curtain Falls.” The introspective nature of the music calls to mind Tim Bowness and his sad lovelorn songs. If you are in the mood from some beautiful and haunting music, Zero Acts 1 & 2 might fill the bill.
