The Last Are Lost from the List Cover art

Kokkinià, a Greek band that formed in 2018, plays a mixture of heavy and progressive rock. In 2022 they released their first single, “Tromos / Thyella,” which appears on their debut album The Last Are Lost from the List, digitally released in 2022. Then in 2024 they released their second single, “Arboreal.”  Now in 2025 French label Bitume has put out the album on CD. Kokkinià is Vangelis R (vocals), Marinos Tzaferis (guitar and keyboards), David Prudent (bass), Manos Karteris (lute), and Savvas Kalymnios (drums and percussion). Their music is a mixture of gorgeous melodic prog rock and raw heavy metal across nine tracks, referencing bands that started rejuvenating prog rock in the 90s. The opening track, “Whoami,” begins with shimmering keyboards and then launches into brash metal guitars and drums that alternates with calmer prog rock. The short fifty-second “Stachtee” follows with mysterious and quiet delayed guitar chords. Then Kokkinià launches into the dark, angry “Blue on Black,” followed by “Enigma” with its clashing heavy metal chords, distorted guitars, and raw vocals. “Syopee” slows things down with soft delicate guitar strumming and picking. Then they hit you with the heavy hard rockers “Shelt3r” and “Lethe.” The album ends with their two singles “Tromos / Thyella” and “Arboreal.” I am not sure what the title The Last Are Lost from the List means, the promo material certainly doesn’t shed any light here, but if you enjoy a blend of hard progressive rock and heavy metal, then check out this album.
