Fog Music Cover art

Jack Hertz is an ambient music artist who releases a new album every month it seems, some months even more. Around ten years ago, Aural Films (a label that creates soundtracks for movies that don’t yet exist) in cooperation with Hertz, brought forth an idea to commision a number of different artists (including himself) to create musical interpretations of that weather condition known as fog. It can be beautiful and peaceful, sometimes inspiring, but can be a nightmare to drive in… take it from one who has been involved in a pileup on the road in southern California, the same place that Jack Hertz calls home. Altogether, Aural Films produced around 40 of these Fog Music soundtracks, each one numbered: Jack Hertz’ was #19, Jarguna’s was originally #38, and there were a number of Fog Music Live releases featuring various artists. But that was 2015 when the original call went out and so many different artists responded with their creative interpretations. Now, almost ten years later, Projekt has reissued Jarguna’s piece as simply Fog Music, one continuous 31-minute track that breathes and grows as it proceeds, with deep bass pulses and sparkling dreamlike structures just under the surface, with regular swirling cosmic sounds that wrap around and envelop the listener as the piece moves into its next phase, and the soundworld mutates again. Presumably the piece was created entirely with analog and digital synthesizers, though there appear to be some voices and percussives involved as well, everything overlapping and blurring into a slow moving whirlwind of cosmic dust. Overall, it is an amazing piece that befits the contour of slowly shifting fog patterns both in night and day.
