Gustavo Denouard — Mysterious Wind
(Projekt no#, 2024, DL)

Mysterious Wind Cover art

Denouard is a Buenos Aires based sound sculptor working in a minimalist, contemplative style, what we at Exposé commonly refer to as floating ambient; counting his six releases from 2020 to 2023 as Microscopic White Noise, Mysterious Wind is his seventh, and his first on Projekt records. After years of playing synth in rock and pop bands, Denouard decided it was time to strike out on his own as a solo artist in his preferred style of electronic music. He plies his craft using a combination of hardware and software synthesizers (Korg Wavestate, Nord Lead 2x, Behringer Deepmind 6, and some Arturia VSTs) adding layer upon layer of sound in his home studio until the desired emotion and level of expression is achieved. The album opens with the near-nine minute title track, a deep dive into a purely meditative world with a thick blanket of warmth forming all around the listener, calling forth the power of sounds that seem like celestial voices, slowly bending and turning in space, a beautiful and gentle sustained caress from beyond. Moving on, “Spirits” washes the soul in gripping textures, just muted enough to evince a soundworld of chaos and mystery, constantly morphing throughout its ten-plus minute duration; with the sounds constantly changing as the pieces proceed, they never get tiresome or samey, hence a listener can remain engaged without becoming sleepy. With numerous layers of texture and tonal color shifting around freely in the ether, “Blue Sky” is another magnificent standout filled with emotion and elegance. “Forest” begins as a purely textural epic, slowly becoming filled with sunlight and stunnig beauty. Throughout there are no vocals, no sharp edges or cadences,  just clusters of glorious sound creating powerful feelings in the listeners spirit and imagination, and a wondrous introspective cosmic epiphany.
