Gnidrolog — Live 1972

Live 1972 Cover art

This is mostly taken from a concert recorded in Birmingham, England, July 10, 1972, except for one bonus track from a different show. It is a live document that is perhaps a bit lacking in the sound quality area, definitely something associated with a more bootleg-like sound. The live show culls mostly from the later album, Lady Lake, but also from In Spite of Harry's Toenail. It is a performance that starts to gain speed with the end of a 13-minute long "I Could Never Be a Soldier." It sort of backs off at "Time and Space," but the complex "Meanwhile Back at the Office" again brings up the pace a bit. The lyrics of "My Mother" are funny enough to be worth the song, and, after the harmonica / drum duo towards the end, it picks up with some nice solo sections, sax and guitar. The Birmingham show ends with a version of "Toenail" which also has its fair share of solos. The bonus track, "Sixpence for a Handstand" is perhaps the CD's most spirited track, and a fitting end for a concert. For collectors mostly, but a nice live show nonetheless.
