Dirk Serries & Asmus Tietchens — Die Regeninsel
(Bandcamp Attenuation Circuit ACU 1099, 2026, CD / DL)

Asmus Tietchens is an experimental sound sculptor (electronic, industrial, electro-acoustic, ambient) based in Berlin who has been actively releasing music over many decades, with well over one-hundred releases since 1980. We haven’t covered his work much here at Exposé, but that’s not because it didn’t warrant our attention. Dirk Serries is a name most Exposé readers are very familiar with, from his days as VidnaObmana to Fear Falls Burning to his more recent endeavors released under his real name and co llaborations with other like-minded travelers. Die Regeninsel is Serries’ sixth collaboration with Tietchens, thrice previously as VidnaObmana (Untitled, Motives for Recylings, and The Shift Recyclings) and twice previously as Dirk Serries (Air and Die Hofner Akten); On this latest release Serries’ layered guitar abstractions meet Tietchens’ treatments and effects, pushing the limits of the possibilities of sound. The album features six long tracks that often seem to be borne of repeating loops and cyclical drones that follow the listener’s consciousness through unstable liquid movements, each a wild journey that can begin anywhere and end somewhere else, with few restrictions on what might be encountered along that trajectory; typically the experience is neither smooth nor abrasive, just an exposition of something that might open a portal, invite the listener in, and follow one through to a new stage where something different and equally interesting is likely to occur. The tracks are typically around seven minutes in length, composed of numerous layers that slowly evolve over that time, but this is not a floating ambient thing, more like industrial sonic expositions framed into six pieces, each with a unique sonic fingerprint that continuously presents new imagery. “Nebel” and “Wolken” are two of the set’s most memorable tracks, although all have many great moments that a listener can just flow with.
