Your Body is Beyond-O-Matic’s third album of spacey trance-like vignettes. The quartet is getting proficient extracting elements of the early Pink Floyd (A Saucerful of Secrets period) and refining a low-tech, hi-fidelity sound unlike any other spacerock groups. That is due in no small part to the emphasis on accessible vocals and a careful mixdown by the band themselves, (which is unusual itself). Imagine what Tangerine Dream would have been like if they had a pop tunesmith such as Syd Barrett and you’re approaching the delivery on “Scareotica / Ghosty.” There is a playful, minimalist approach to the tracks, which lend themselves to easier appreciation. The project was real-time composed which implies few overdubs and a greater live sense for the players to transfer the work to stage. Peter Fuhry is the ringleader of this quartet, which relies on spur of the moment ideas and steady rhythms to create an abstract construct. “Green Organ Preciface” relies on a treatment of dreamy synth sways and effects laden guitar strumming to create a watery theme. The album’s longest track, “Buttercup,” is a more percussive piece, with drums out front and more standard rock format. An odd cover track is used as the album’s closing piece, Madonna’s single “Frozen,” with a slower dronelike tempo and an echoey flute solo. Honestly, with the right promotion, the band could be huge in the modern rock radio market. What they need is an open-minded marketing firm.
