Bio / info
After leaving John's Children in 1967, Marc Bolan (born Mark Feld) formed the acoustic duo Tyrannosaurus Rex with percussionist Steve Peregrin Took. The duo signed a recording deal with producer Tony Visconti, for releases on EMI's Regal Zonophone label. Following a poorly received US tour, Steve Took left and was replaced by Mickey Finn. In all, four albums were released under the name Tyrannosaurus Rex between 1968 and 1970. At Visconti's urging, the duo shortened the name to T.Rex and expanded into a full-fledged rock band, becoming successful early exponents of what came to be called "glam rock." By the mid-70s, the band's popularity started to wane, and Bolan took to releasing music as "Marc Bolan and T. Rex" and incorporated disco sounds into his music. He was just forming a new band in 1977 when he died in a car accident.
