Behind the Sun Collective — Children of the Revolution / Maggot Brain

Behind the Sun Collective is a band from Norwich, UK, and a brand new band for Fruits de Mer. They played at the 2024 FdM summer festival and immediately grabbed Keith Jones’ attention with their blinding set of psychedelia, jazz drum vibes, grunge guitars, and throbbing bass lines. Keith and the band then agreed to release a 7-inch of two classic covers: Marc Bolan’s “Children of the Revolution” and George Clinton’s “Maggot Brain.” Back in 1972, “Children of the Revolution” reached number 2 in the UK charts, and now Behind the Sun Collective have recorded an excellent, near perfect cover. This song rocks! Now, “Maggot Brain” is no stranger to Fruits de Mer: Sendelica covered this Funkadelic psych masterpiece several years ago. The original “Maggot Brain” ran over ten minutes and was recorded in one take, but this new cover is a mere four minutes — yet Behind the Sun Collective has created a tasty and trippy rendition with lots of throbbing bass. You might be surprised by the choice of these two disparate songs, but you won’t be disappointed with results.
