Yesterday's Sunshine Today Cover art

Yesterday’s Sunshine Today is a Think Like a Key reissue of the Greek label 2020 Timemachine vinyl album. In addition to the original nineteen covers, four bonus tracks have been added, including the final song “Hello God” performed by Patrick Campbell-Lyons and Alex Spyropoulous AKA Nirvana. Yesterday’s Sunshine Today is a hit-or-miss compilation by mostly unknown artists. Typically, when labels issue tribute albums, each participating musician or band covers a different song.  However, for some reason both “Rainbow Chaser” and “Pentecost Hotel” are covered twice. Of the 23 songs, only about 50% are worthy of notice: Echo Train’s cover of “Wings of Love,” Clockwork Flowers’ “Flowers for Friday,” St. John’s Wood Affair’s “St John’s Wood Affair,” Jacco Gardner’s trippy version of “Rainbow Chaser,” Henry Priestman’s “Pentecost Hotel,” Talk’s “Black Flower,” Nick Capaldi’s “Busy Man,” The Absorbus Machine’s “All I Do,” Dor Koren’s “The Show Must Go On / Frankie the Great / Believer in Magic (Medley),” Ex Norwegian’s “Flashbulb,” and Nirvana’s album closer “Hello God.” Primarily it is the song choice for this tribute compilation that causes the uneveness of this album, as many of the songs are just too firmly rooted in 60s pop-psych and don’t translate well 60 years on. The covers that do succeed are the result of the musicianship and inventiveness of the artists. Overall, this tribute may only be of interest to fans of Nirvana. If you’ve never experienced Nirvana, you probably won’t find a lot of enjoyment from this album.
