Us and Them — If Summer Lingers
(Bandcamp Withdrawn Records 008, 2024, CD / DL)

If Summer Lingers Cover art

It is always a good day when you hear some new Us and Them music for the first time. In May 2024, Us and Them released a CDEP with two songs: “If the Summer Lingers” and “In the Waiting Room.” “If the Summer Lingers” is from their new album scheduled for release this fall. While working on the album they found that their new songs were going in two different directions, partly light and melodic and partly moving and rather dark, the light and the shade. “If the Summer Lingers” is a dreamy siren call to wander through the early twilight of a summer evening. With Brit’s beautiful voice leading you on, you can only wish that the summer would linger. In contrast to this light and melodic two and a half minute song is the nearly ten minute “The Waiting Room,” which will not appear on the album; it’s an eerie, dark, and moody song with lush hypnotic textures that conjures images of surreal 60s/70s gothic movies.  What can I say about Us and Them that I have not already written for their previous work? Suffice it to say, this single is outstanding and quite a teaser for the upcoming album.
