Let me take a moment to tell you about the new Fruits de Mer release by Finland’s psych rockers Superfjord, For the Moment Vol 1. This is their first full length album on Fruits de Mer, and after a string of appearances on various Fruits de Mer singles and compilations. In addition to it being their actual third album, it is the first in a series of live recordings aimed to capture Superfjord at their purest rawest form, something that studio recordings cannot match. Available in either the standard black vinyl or red vinyl, this album features excerpts from Superfjord’s pre-lockdown concert on January 31, 2020 at Helsinki’s G Livelab. The venue’s state-of-the-art audio setup and intimate atmosphere allowed the band to record unfettered improvizational flights of fancy where musicians and audience could travel together through the cosmic realms of Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, 70s modal/spiritual jazz, kosmische music, and Gong. The four tracks are creatively titled “Moment 1,” “Moment 2,” “Rainbow,” and “Moment 4.” A very tasty musical excursion lasting a mere 41 minutes, leaving you thirsting for more. Superfjord’s mastery of floating soothing motorik Krautrock and searing guitar passages also evokes comparisons to Neu!, Harmonia, and Camera. Sound interesting?
