Stefano "Lupo" Galifi was the lead vocalist of the legendary Italian prog band Museo Rosenbach, which released one of the finest Italian prog masterpieces in 1973, Zarathustra. Museo Rosenbach then disbanded and has reunited on and off decades later. In 2006 Elisa Montaldo met Lupo and after several discussions, the two decided to form Il Tempio delle Clessidre to play Zarathustra live. I met Lupo in Seoul, South Korea in 2011 when they performed Zarathustra. At that time he was 63 and his voice was as clear and as strong as it was in 1973. Fast forward ten years, and 2021 saw the release of Lupo’s first solo album Dei Ricordi, un Museo, again demonstrating Lupo’s deep Italian prog roots and vocal abilities. His voice continues as strong as ever, giving no indication of his age. I find it odd reviewing a solo album by a vocalist, when the band also plays a major role on the album. For this effort Lupo enlisted help from established musicians and composers from the Italian prog scene: Luca Scherani (La Coscienza di Zeno and Höstsonaten) who shaped the melodies and music to showcase Lupo’s voice, performing on piano, keyboards, and flute; Gabriele Guidi Colombi (La Coscienza di Zeno and Not a Good Sign) who wrote the lyrics as well as performing on bass; Marcella Arganese (Ubi Maior and Mr. Punch) on electric and acoustic guitars; and Folco Fedele (Panther & C) on drums. Dei Ricordi, un Museo is a modern Italian prog album with strong themes, engaging melodies, and soaring guitar lines that harken back to the 70s and is sure to please all fans of Italian prog rock.
