Reynols — Tolin Asumer
(Bandcamp Carbon Records, 2022, LP / DL)

The experimental Argentinian group Reynols has been releasing music since 1993, with over 150 releases, and their latest, Tolin Asumer, is their first proper US release. Recorded in Buenos Aires in 2018-19 and remixed in 2021, Tolin Asumer is a fantastic Krautrock influenced extravaganza of four tracks! The album opens with “Colliso Atomro,” a loose cosmic jam that is a cross between “Interstellar Overdrive” and Can. The second track, “Etrol Rene 5043,” builds over its 14 minutes sounding like Neu! ’75 with screaming guitars, crazed organ, and motorik beats. “Manoria Acupelmo” is another motorik tour de force that builds momentum that takes the listener to the final track “Ronero Manila Das.” Now Reynols jumps from Krautrock to drone raga rock. The tamboura-like drones come in waves like a gentle breeze, ever-shifting like curtains at an open window. Miguel Tomasin starts singing the lyrics to “Volare” that somehow weirdly works with the drones. This trance-inducing track evolves from a Middle-Eastern psych jam to a free-noise guitar/drum masterpiece. Tolin Asumer is Krautrock taken to the next level.
