Pymlico’s studio releases have consisted of instrumental music that touches on both jazz and progressive rock, often with a funky edge but always melodic. With No More, No Less we get a taste of what the band can do live. This music was recorded live in a studio as part of a video project towards the end of 2022. But the band wasn’t satisfied with the video, and the project languished for a time. The audio wasn’t a problem — in fact, it captured the band in a very immediate and energetic way – so eventually they decided to just release a live album. The material is drawn from several of their albums., with two tracks each from Meeting Point (2016), Nightscape (2018), and Supermassive (2022) plus one from On This Day (2020). The lineup at this time featured longtime members Arild Brøter (drums), Øyvind Brøte (keyboards), Stephan Hvinden (guitar), and Andreas Sjo Engen (guitar) with saxophonist Robin Havem Løvøy, bassist Are Nerland, and percussionist Oda Rydning. No More, No Less is that special kind of live album that works nicely as an introduction for newbies to the band and as an interesting alternative version for existing fans.
