Luciano Basso — To Tell

48 years ago Luciano Basso released his first album Voci, a lush keyboard dominated Italian progressive rock classic. Over the years Basso has taught music and released a number of albums. The latest is To Tell, an album of 12 neo-classical instrumental tracks, primarily with Basso on piano. Basso’s music has certainly mellowed with age. And To Tell is a number of Satie-esque romantic pieces, some introspective, some lounge, others ballet dance numbers. As Basso progresses through his compositions, he augments his music with violin and woodwinds. There are moments on the title track and “Suoni di Pace” where there are hints of “The Gael,” that most will remember from the soundtrack to The Last of the Mohicans. To Tell is a relaxing 53 minutes that does not demand your attention. If you are expecting a listening experience like Voci, you will be disappointed.
