Exedra — Reconverged
((Not on label) no#, 2024, CD)

Similar to his Converged retrospective for the 2023 19th Dream of Dr. Sardonicus Festival, Darrall Knight (AKA exedra) released another retrospective exploring his discography for the 2024 Festival, showcasing a different set of songs, Reconverged. Once again arranged in chronological order, he presents two tracks from his 2016 release Elemental, the Krautrock influenced “Distance” and the atmospheric “Sacred Ways.” Next is a song from his 2016 Dandelion Radio Session, a remix of “St. Sinner” from the Elemental album, which makes me think of a more lively Tim Bowness. The next two tracks come from another 2016 release, Illuminized. Here he presents two contemplative tracks: “A Reaction for Mark Blanco” and “Music for Ocean Swell.” These two tracks showcase Darrall’s guitar and synthesizer chops. Next is “Peace” from his 2017 EP Entropic; “Peace” is a cosmic meditation track supplemented by a soothing narrator “At peace. At one. Moving. Still.” Then he presents “Universal Ocean,” the flip side of his Bowie cover single “Win” from Young Americans. “Universal Ocean” is a dark psych musical journey. Now jumping ahead to his 2020 album Time and Emotion, Darrall treats us to his Japanese influenced “Satoyama” with its slowly changing chords, water sounds, and bells. “Satoyama” is followed by another track from the same release, “Sundial,” a beautiful mixture of sustained piano chords and synths. Moving on, there are two tracks from his 2021 EP Turnahead, the hypnotic twelve-minute “Turnahead (Unspoken)” and “Turnahead (Part 3)” that we’ve previously reviewed. And closing Reconverged are two tracks from 2023’s Electronic Neo Age Mystery, “Via Doloroso” and “Electronic Neo Age Mystery,” another album previously reviewed. Since Reconverged is a self-released CDr, if interested, I recommend that you contact Darrall via his Bandcamp page to request a copy.
