An exceptional zeuhl / fusion disc from France sees the light of day once again. As is so often the case, there is a common lineage here: among other zeuhl protagonists previously involved with this band, the disc itself is co-produced by Laurent Thibault, while Gerard Prevost (Zao) contributes bass on one track. David Rose's (Transit Express) fantastic violin playing is an obvious dominant feature throughout, but just as important are the keyboards, consisting of piano, clavinet, organ, Fender Rhodes, ARP, and Moog. In fact, most of the songs were written by the two pianists (one appears on each side) with Rose co-writing one song and writing another himself. Despite such a keyboard arsenal, grand piano is most often the instrument of choice. This combination of violin and piano creates some wonderful interactions whether alone or in a full band context. Aside from the stellar musicianship of all members (bass and drums included), the varied arrangements are a key to the greatness of this disc, ranging from the beautifully stark piano / violin of "Skyway," to the totally ripping unaccompanied violin showpiece "Starset," and the rocking jams with throbbing zeuhl bass. Don't miss this one.
