Daniele Sollo — Order and Disorder

Order and Disorder Cover art

Daniele Sollo is an Italian bassist and composer who has performed with Höstsonaten, and Order and DisOrder is his first solo album, though he is joined by well known contemporary Italian prog rockers Fabio Zuffanti, Alessandro Corvaglia, Luca Scherani, and Stefano Agnini. Daniele comes from the world of fusion and jazz-rock. Through his association with Zuffanti et al., Daniele merged his experience with the complexity of neo-Italian progressive rock to compose the six tracks on Order and DisOrder. Daniele and his musical guests have done an incredible job of mixing Italian prog rock with jazz fusion, and song writing. Melodic prog guitar passages, emotive vocals, strong bass riffing, and a hint of Krautrock (i.e., Eloy) make for quite an enjoyable listening experience. This is a concept album contrasting the differences between order and disorder, taking very different musical elements and creating something harmonious and homogeneous, landing somewhere between Italian prog, jazz-rock, fusion, and hard rock. My favorite tracks are the nearly 12 minute “Anytime, Anyplace” that mixes 70s progressive rock with contemporary metal prog and the closing track, the exquisite “Pavane in F# Major” by Gabriel Fauré.
