The Fellowship of the Mystery Cover art

In October 2024 Russian band Compassionizer released their fourth full length album, The Fellowship of Mystery, fifty minutes of instrumental music across seven tracks. The line up for the new album is Serghei Liubcenco (guitars, bass, rubab, drums, doira, and percussion), Leonid Perevalov (bass clarinet), Ivan Rozmainsky (conception, composition, spinet, synths, and kalimba), and AndRey Stefinoff (clarinet). They are also joined by several guest musicians on different tracks: Vitaly Borodin (violin), Oleg Prilutsky (trumpet), Ksenia Vaganova (violin), and Sabina Vostner (vocals and ukulele). Together they perform primarily acoustic progressive chamber music that borders at times on the semi-classical and spritiual that flows seamlessly from one track to the next. The first six tracks are in the four to five minute range, with the seventh title track lasting nearly 22 minutes to close the album. Perevalov’s bass clarinet and Stefinoff’s clarinet impart beautiful textures to the compositions, with Prilutsky’s trumpet interweaving, especially on “For Them Who Shall Be Heirs of Salvation.” And of course band founder Rozmainsky provides some beautiful spinet passages. You must experience The Fellowship of Mystery as a whole to appreciate the artistry, music, and the various emotions of the album. The Fellowship of Mystery is a new direction for Compassionizer as well as a welcome break from some of the more complex and energetic music being released today.
