Puer Aeternus Cover art

It has been three years since Ancient Veil’s previous album. Now they return with a concept album, Puer Aeternus, in the style of classic 70s Italian prog bands such as Le Orme, Museo Rosenbach, etc. In addition to current band members Alessandro Serri (vocals, guitars, flute, harmonica, and keyboard programming), Edmondo Romano (alto, soprano, tenor, and bass recorders, soprano and sopranino sax, chalumeau, clarinets, low whistle, and voice), Fabio Serri (piano, Hammond and Moog, and vocals), Massimo Palermo (bass), and Marco Fuliano (drums), they are joined by a bevy of well-known guest musicians including Lino Vairetti (Osanna), Martin Grice (Delirium), Sophya Baccini, Tony Cicco (Formula Tre), Roberto Tiranti (New Trolls), Natalino Ricciardo (Paolo Conte), Simona Fasano, and Elisa Marangon to augment the music and provide vocals for the various characters in this theatrical rock opera. Puer Aeternus is a definitely an Italian prog rock album with some urban jazz moments mixed in with the lush emotional and classical music passages. Both Hammond Organ and Moog synthesizers weave in and out of the music to balance the rich musical palette provided by the string quartet, woodwind section (clarinet, oboe, bassoon), and French horn for an hour’s journey through some very pleasant music. There are some standout moments, but you need to take Puer Aeternus in its entirety.
