Vibravoid — Remove the Ties
(Tonzonen TON184, 2025, LP)
by Jon Davis, Published 2025-10-17
On Remove the Ties, Vibravoid presents another solid set of classic space rock, though they start the album with “Computer Dreams,” which owes more to Kraftwerk than Hawkwind, based around minimal synthesizers and effected vocals. But that’s only a diversion — with “Neustart” the guitars roar back, and you’re in the territory of Quark, Strangeness and Charm. Which is to say a punkish song with wild synths swooping over the top. Compared to some other Vibravoid releases, the tracks here tend towards the concise, with none over eight minutes in length, keeping the entire set to a single LP. You’ll still hear the occasional backwards guitar solo, but nothing that goes on for too long. Remove the Ties is Vibravoid in “more of the same” mode, not adding anything new to their sound, but that’s not generally what space rock fans are looking for. New songs in the same idiom are just more tunage for the voyage, and it’s fine if there are no surprises, just variations on the theme. “Increasing the Pain” leans towards a bouncy late-60s feel, and “A State of Mind” pursues a quieter type of trippiness, while “Power of Dreams” and “Your Revolution Is Dead” lean into the core style. Christian Koch and company continue to carry the psychedelic banner, and though Remove the Ties seems unlikely to garner new fans, it provides the existing base with exactly what it’s looking for.
