Here is a new release that I have been eagerly awaiting, the new Fruits de Mer self-titled double 7-inch by The Hobbit House Collective, available in either red or silver swirl vinyl. The Hobbit House Collective is an Icarus Peel, Crystal Jacqueline, and friends project. The double 7-inch features four songs, one each by various combinations and permutations of the Hobbit House Collective: Crystal Jacqueline, The Honey Pot, Icarus Peel’s Acid Reign, and The Locker Room Cowboys. Track one is a tremendous cover of Led Zeppelin’s “The Battle of Evermore” by Crystal Jacqueline. Her amazing voice and vocal range surpass Robert Plant and take this song beyond the stratosphere, augmented by an inspired and demonic violin solo by Curved Air’s Darryl Way. They have truly taken ownership of this Zeppelin classic. Track two is another Zeppelin tune, “Ramble On,” covered by The Honey Pot, who approach this Zeppelin blues rock classic from an entirely different direction, lysergic folk for a slow burn. Crystal Jacqueline and The Honey Pot leave Robert Plant and Zeppelin in the dust as once again they take ownership of the song. This release is the first time any Zeppelin covers have appeared on FdM. Track three is Acid Reign’s cover of Fleetwood Mac’s hit “The Chain,” though you might be hard pressed to recognize it. Icarus Peel created a rocking and gutsy blues rock instrumental with a dreamy bridge. And the final track is an original Icarus Peel tune performed by The Locker Room Cowboys, “Wolfgang Does the Nurburgring.” This instrumental showcases another side of this multi-faceted collective. Tambourine, bongos, cool organ riffing, and swooping phased guitar. A fantastic release if you can find a copy on eBay as FdM has sold out the set.
