The Superstars — Metamorphosis
(Fruits de Mer winkle 43, 2020, 7")

This new Fruits de Mer 7-inch contains the classic Italian prog sound, though at least one member lives in Germany, with keyboards front and center. The Superstars are currently working on an album, but they agreed to release the mostly instrumental “Metamorphosis” in both studio and live versions along with another track “Finale.” The studio version of “Metamorphosis” is a lush composition of reverbed guitar, Mellotron, Hammond organ, swirling analog synths, and spoken vocals. The live version begins as a more subdued rendition and builds to a superb climax, sans vocals. “Finale” builds on a simple melodic electric guitar riff with swooping electronics to create a refreshing 70s vibe. If this 7-inch is any indication of what their forthcoming album sounds like, we are certainly in for a treat.
