The Haven Green — All Human Life Is Here

All Human Life Is Here Cover art

We’ve been following Steve Somerset and his solo project The Haven Green for several years and his latest album All Human Life Is Here continues his musical journey with another set of twelve excellent pop psych songs. All Human Life Is Here is his fourth studio album as The Haven Green. His approach to recording an album is to just start writing songs with no particular theme in mind, then over the course of time his collection of songs starts to take shape, and in the present case, these new songs address the human condition in all its different forms, some observational and others deeply personal. Some of these songs are ballads recalling idyllic summers (“Summer Daze”), first love (“Right Place Right Time” as opposed to Dr. John’s “Right Place Wrong Time”), love lost (“Play Repeat Play”), coming of age and moving on (“Down by the Spider Bridge”), and the inspirational “What Don’t Kill You.”  Across its 49 minutes, All Human Life Is Here showcases Steve’s psychedelic writing and musician skills with swooping guitar, jangly guitar, studio effects, and multi-instruments. Perhaps the most engaging song is the album opener “Radio Silence,” an eight minute psych extravaganza with the music transcending the lyrics, followed by the title track, basically a carnival barker inviting you into Steve’s world to witness that in point of fact, all human life is here. All Human Life Is Here is another wonderful chapter in The Haven Green’s discography.
