I Can Hear the Grass Grow / Get Going Cover art

Spanish psych rockers Stay have been around since 2001, and were one of the first bands featured on Fruits de Mer Records, starting in 2008. However it has been five long years since Stay’s last vinyl FdM release Always Here. Now we are in for a treat — their new 7-inch features an immaculate and inventive cover of The Move’s 60s song “I Can Hear the Grass Grow,” which is a vast improvement over the original. In fact they own the song with their up tempo trippy pop psych approach and twelve-string guitar experimentation that I find extremely engaging. The flip side is “Get Going (UK Version),” Stay’s take on 60s British garage beat from their latest album Old Sounds of Modern Music. This version was remixed for FdM and recorded during a series of pandemic sessions to encourage listeners to stand up and fight for their lives and rights after months of strict restrictions in Spain. “Get Going (UK Version)” is a catchy song that makes you want to join in on the rally-call chorus. Highly recommended if you are a fan of soft psychedelic sounds.
