Solo Guitar Score for 2x2x4 Cover art

New York City guitarist and keyboardist Sal Cataldi, AKA Spaghetti Eastern Music, released his EP of solo electric guitar 2x2x4 on September 20, 2021. Artist Charles Dennis premiered his offbeat dance duet 2x2x4 with fourteen wooden 2x4s in 1989. Now in 2021, Cataldi has contributed his atmospheric, looped, and layered guitar explorations captured live at the Avant-Garde Arama Woodstock. This event, originating in 1980 at the legendary East Village venue Performance Space 122 (P.S. 122), Cataldi’s performance was the first time this two day event of short works of dance, performance art, poetry, and music was held outside of New York City. Cataldi’s modern take on Frippertronics, Ebow, and solo guitar created an atmospheric suite of music lasting a mere 19 minutes: “Of Sawdust and Seagulls,” “Pulse the Arpeggiator,” and “The Howl of Contemplation.” Even the track titles have a Frippian quality. I cannot visualize a dance duet with fourteen 2x4s, I would imagine a percussive and noisy performance, not moody echoed, looped, and layered guitar segments. Be that as it may, the music is a treat to experience. Forget the avant-garde context, Cataldi’s music is great!
