Sound of Ground — Sick
(Addicted Label BNiL , 2013, CD / DL)

Reading their Bandcamp banner, Russian band Sound of Ground describes their music as "eclectic myocardial metal," whatever that means. But it certainly sets up you for their 2013 EP Sick. The six tracks are a mixture of various styles including 70s proto punk metal, gothic prog metal, metal, and Cookie-Monster-on-steroids vocals. Much of the EP is an assault on your senses, truly “headache” music. Unfortunately the vocals make the music really sick, and songs like “Reboiled,” Hey Hobo!," and "The Turin Horse” would have been much better as strictly instrumentals. But there is nothing of note about the performances either. You just breathe a sigh of relief after each track and then tense up as the next one starts, leaving you with an overall feeling of malaise. Perhaps that is their intent, but who would find pleasure is experiencing this? Another one to avoid.
