Power trio Sinoptik, winners of the title “The World’s Best Rock Band” at the Global Battle of the Bands in Berlin, is the only independent Ukranian band to rock 80,000 people at the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv, sharing the stage with Uriah Heep, Marilyn Manson, Within Temptation, and Jinjer. The Calling, released on June 11, 2021 is their fourth album, merging elements of Black Sabbath, melodic prog, metal, and Jimi Hendrix. What really appeals to me are Dmitriy Afanaslev’s vocals. He has a great voice and avoids the temptation of throat shredding singing that many metal bands resort to these days. The concept behind The Calling focuses on those who have sacrificed everything for their hopes and dreams to prove that anything is possible. Fusing art and science, Sinoptik create some enjoyable music with the best tracks being “Young and High” and the nine minute ballad “The Call.” Sinoptik is not the first to explore this genre, but they have certainly created one killer of an album that is so musically refreshing that it should become a classic around the world.
