Longtime Fruits de Mer band Schizo Fun Addict will release their first single from their forthcoming album Desolate Ecstasy as a 7-inch turquoise 1-sided lathe cut in March 2026. In the mid-80s band co-founder Jet Wintzer found an old Sony camcorder at a Salvation Army store in Hackettstown, NJ. The cassette had stuck in the machine, so it didn’t work and he put it aside for years. Then during those dismal Covid days in 2020, he and band member Jayne Gabriel dinked around with the camcorder and got it to work. And what they watched amazed them. The tape began with three friends in their early 20s flying from the US to Glasgow in 1985. These three friends were the image of hip NYC rockers, wearing leather, chains, and biker boots. Then the tape cut to some clips of live bands, dancing, and scenes at a Glasgow pub, The Griffin. Then the video cut to the trio making plans on their trip back home to form their own band that they decided to name Desolate Ecstasy. And they wrote their first song on the airplane, “Pasteline Dream” that was not very good — nobody could carry a tune. Unfortunately, Desolate Ecstasy was destined to be a band that never was. Fast forward to the present day and Schizo Fun Addict, in tribute to this “band” that never was, adopted the band name and song title and turned it into an extremely fun and addictive West Coast psych pop song enhanced by the double female vocals of Jayne and Ilona Virostek, evoking images of Michelle Phillips and Mama Cass. The second track, “Fate Reprise,”  is a dreamy instrumental that is a beautiful compliment to “Pasteline Dream.” If Desolate Ecstasy is anything like this tantalizing teaser, we are in for a musical treat in May 2026.
